Great review of the Pirana, I too own a Pirana and have it on a Petzl William karabiner, but do use the Petzl Attache too. Other karabiners do fit into the device despite the bush, the DMM Sentenal fits but is a D shape, but DMM FatBoy or Belay Master (same karabiner, just with the added gate) also fit.
I know that this is a canyoneering blog so it isn't required but the Pirana is also a belay device, which I have to say out of all the figure of eights I have I prefer the most for lead climbing. Having the rope running over the karabiner instead of running around the figure of eight (which you mustn't do on the Pirana) making for a fast flowing belaying in both paying out slack and taking in.
Petzl also make the Pirana in black and silver to which I have the black on a black Tri-lock Petzl William which makes the whole set really stand out! The Petzl Pirana retails for £22.50 in the UK, fortunately I ordered mine through the climbing centre I work for and only paid £15.65!
Again, great little blog on the Petzl Pirana and enjoy!

I Was drawn in by this post when I was looking for friction configurations of this device. I'm new to canyoneering so I was looking for a device that would be smoother than an ATC-XP especially when the rope is wet and dirty. This post helped alot.

also I would like to say That someone else is reading other than your mom.. LOL. I feel the same way you do some times

not to be a spammer but http://www.bogley.com/forum/ has a big canyoneering group mostly utahns, I'm known as theking648 their.

anyways I enjoyed reading your posts, i'll stop by from time to time.

Cheers,
